Job Roles
Camera Operator - The Camera operator is possibly the most important person in the advert, without his specialities the advert may not be as steady as a amateur Camera operator.
Sound Operator - The job of a sound technician is to identify the sound requirements for a given task or situation and to perform the appropriate actions to produce this sound. Sound technician is an umbrella term which covers many more specialized occupations. Sound technicians of different types are required in a range of industries including: broadcasting (radio or television), live performance (theatre, music, dance), advertising, music production and film.
Editor - editing is part of the process of filmmaking. It involves the selection and combining of shots into sequences, and ultimately creating a finished Motion Picture. It is an art of storytelling. Film editing is the only art that is unique to cinema, separating film-making from other art forms that preceded it (such as photography, theater, dance, writing, and Directing), although there are close parallels to the editing process in other art forms like poetry or novel writing. Film editing is often referred to as the "invisible art" because when it is well-practiced, the viewer can become so engaged that he or she is not even aware of the editor's work.
Composer - The person who rights all of the music parts for the advert.
Animator - makes cartoons or adds pictures into video to make them look like they are moving
Script Righter - The person who rights the lines for the actors to right.

This is a animation advert, this is a effective way of advertising because it will make viewers remember it with its annoying theme tune and ugly looking characters.
This Documentary advert could also be a realistic advert as well, as british forces
do something get there selves into them situations, and do have to use there initiative.
The Advert is good and will keep the attention of the audience because of the tension it
creates
this is unrealistic because a gorilla cannot play the drums.  it is a good advert because it is funny and you do not expect it to play the drums...
i think cadburys used this advert style because people will remember the gorilla playing the drums and to one of the best drums solo ever.
This is a dramatic advert because the kid has lost his parents, the makers of this advert have used the sadness of their child to make them stop smoking
This Advert is a very good iconic advert as most people who want to play football look up to David Beckham, Pepsi done this so that it would encourage people to buy pepsi.
This Advert is advertising East enders Tv Series, This advert is trying to get people to
Watch East enders on BBC, BBC know that East enders is the most watch TV program
Monthly and Weekly at the moment, so they are using East enders to assist them in getting their views up.
This Advert I used in the “Dramatic” section,  but I think this is perfect for
A narrative one as well.
Because, it is a horrible story about the kids parents being killed by smoking
The target audience will be for 18+ or anyone who smokes with kids
They are using the kids sadness to guilt the parents into stopping smoking.

Wednesday 9 November 2011

This advert is for a energy drink called Mother, it’s a re make of a different drink its explains that there only make wasn’t like and no one liked the taste if it, so they made a new one called mother with a different taste.
In this advert it shows some FBI type of people on ropes sliding down the side of the building and bursting in to a lab and they start attacking the lab members.
They are blaming them for the taste of the old energy drink. They are saying its there fault you don’t like it so they will have to be punished, they are trying to say well we messed up last time but we have brought out a new drink that is a lot better. This makes you want to try it because it’s new.
This type of advert is a stand-alone and anti-realist because it’s not real you don’t really hear of FBI’s breaking in to a lab to beat up some science people only in films and made up stories.
The style of the advert uses humorous and surreal style its funny how they are blaming them for there mistake and saying that they will sort them out and make it better. This advert doesn’t have any background music the only sounds that are in this advert are the lab people getting hit and their reaction like screams, the hits are also made louder to make them seem harder.
Techniques they have used in this advert self-perception and social position. This is because it making you think if you drink this drink you will be cool and strong, it shows army men/FBI ‘s being strong so it makes you think if you drink this drink you will be strong.
This advert is aimed at young boys who want to be strong and fit, also be as good as army men and FBI’s.
This advert is for a energy drink called red bull with the slogan “Red bull gives you wings”
In this advert there’s a young boy who pours red bull in to some pigs drinking bowls, then he goes and asks his mum if he can go to a strip show she said you can go to the strip show when pigs fly, then two pigs fly across the window, so then she lets him go.
This advert uses humor to draw in the audience and also is using the slogan red bull gives you wings, so that’s why the pigs in the advert fly.
Using humor can be very useful in adverts because if it makes you laugh then you will remember it more because if you find it funny then you can tell others and then it will get the advert more views.
Authority:
Is someone you trust such as a doctor or a dentist, if a doctor or a dentist told you a product was good and worth a buy then you are more likely to trust him or her. If a normal person sat and told you that a certain toothpaste was good and that you should buy it you wouldn’t be able to trust them because you would feel it was there opinion and it could work for them but not you, so you wouldn’t be able to fully trust them. If a dentist sat and told you that a product was good and that you should buy?

This advert has a dentist telling you about the product this will make you trust what he is saying because he works with teeth everyday so someone like him would be someone you can trust.
Commitment:
Make you part of a commitment so you feel you have to say yes. They could come to your door and give you a questionnaire, at the top it will give you question like “Do you disagree with child abuse?” “Do you want this to stop?” “Do you hate people who sit back and do nothing?” then at the bottom it will say “please give £2 a month?” then you feel you have to say yes because you have said that you don’t agree with people who sit back and do nothing, this makes you feel bad and make you say yes.

Scarcity/exclusivity:
Special addition will draw you in because you feel you could miss out if they’re not out for very long. Also timed deadlines, we cant have it after the deadline is up so it make you want to get it before its gone. When you see something that isn’t going to be around for very long you feel you need to try it before it’s gone, this will draw you in because its new and exciting. Also if it’s a limited edition and you if like it, maybe you will go out and buy loads of the product because it’s not round for that long so you feel you have to stock up.

This advert shows you the new WKD it shows the product and has a voice telling you how good it is, and then it disappears and says  “Grab it when you can” then the words limited edition appears. This makes the product seem exciting and makes you want to buy it because it’s not out for very long.
Limited Edition] Jalou™ by Dolce Gabbana Commercial
This phone is limited edition, it has different m=women wanting the phone and fighting over it, and it’s a limited edition so its not round for long so get it while its out.

Reciprocation:
They will give you something before you buy to draw you in. It will make you feel that they have given you something so you should buy their product. Some products will give a free gift when you buy, or they will give you tokens and when you get the amount that you need they will give you a free gift, but you have to buy so many to get enough tokens, this makes you buy the product more because you feel that you will get something for free at the end of it. This is a good way to advertise because they will buy more then they would usually or more then they need, because you feel that they are doing you a favor and giving you something for free but really your just buying more of the product then you need and spending more then you usually would.

Birds Eye Polar Bear Fish Fingers Advert
This advert is giving out a free bear when you have collected 6 tokens. Because they are giving away a free bear when kids see this advert and are told they can get a free bear, they will keep making there parents buy the fish fingers so they can get a free bear.
Compare The Market
This also is giving away a free meerkat when you join compare the market.com this also works in the same why kids will see the advert and want the toy so will show there parents the advert which will make them think about going to the website.
Association:

Pepsi ad with Shakira

In this Pepsi advert it features Shakira, a well known dancer and singer young girls and women look up to her and what to be able to sing and dance like her and men find her attractive. So putting Shakira in the advert will attracted more people to view the advert. Also they have her drinking the Pepsi, so using her it makes people want to buy the product because she is drinking it so it makes more interesting because when you drink it you can feel like your famous and that famous people drink this drink so it makes it special and more interesting then other drinks. Using celebrities draw the audience in.

Cheryl Cole - Glam Shine by L'Oreal - We're So Worth It
E.g. in the advert for L’Oreal glam shine, Cheryl Cole is featured and women want to be her and look like her and men want to have her so showing Cheryl it makes women want to buy the product because they feel that if they wear the product it will make them look like her, even though it wont it makes them feel good that if they use it they will feel like they could look like her.
Men will like women to use the product because they are attracted to Cheryl and want there partners to look like her, so they could buy it for them or ask them to get that lipstick because maybe when they kiss there partners lips it will feel like they are kissing Cheryl Cole.
By using a well know celeb in your advert it will appeal to people and draw you in because people look up and aspire to be them.
Hidden and overt messages:

E.g. this advert shows a lot of young models running on to a beach in bikinis, which will draw people in to watch the advert as men like to look at good looking women in there bikinis and women like to look at skinny good looking women because they want to be like them and look like them.

So showing models in the advert will draw attention to it the product. At the start of the advert you think that it is advertising a deodorant because he is spraying him self and all the women are running towards him, then at the end there is a twist, he then puts on some glasses which are hideous and all the women run away then the slogan “should have gone to specs savers” is done as a voice over.

This is a very clever advert because it draws you in because of the sexual impact it gives, then has a joke at the end to make you remember the advert as its humours.
E.g. this advert is selling cleaning products. This kitchen in the background is really clean trying to say that if you have this product your kitchen will and can be as clean this is a hidden message which they have done to make you think what they want you to think.

Emotional response:
E.g. this advert shows you lost animals and gives then a human voice, the first animal is a kitten and they have given it a child’s voice, its saying “where’s my mum” “I’m hungry” by giving it a child’s voice it make you feel like it is a child and it will have the same feelings as someone young, by giving it a voice it then makes you think yeah animals do have feelings and they do think like we do.

Makes you think about what about if that was my child lost in the streets by them selves not knowing what to do and how they would feel. The next animal has a woman’s voice and her owner comes in and he is drunk and he wants to take it out on her, she is scared and is hiding behind the sofa.

This also can be seen as a humans life as in some house holds the men do get drunk and come home to beat there wife’s and in this story the dog plays the part as the wife. This advert is saying just because we can’t understand them they still have feelings it’s trying to show you how they could feel and what they could be thinking or saying. It makes you think and could make you sad so you want to help these animals.  Seeing them sad and with a sad atmosphere it can change your mood and make you sad.
E.g. this advert shows young children who don’t get treated right, its done in black and white with sad depressing music, the images are shocking and very sad. It shows a young girl trying to open a can and she looks about 3 she has been left to look after herself.

Adverts like this also use eyes to draw you in you see a lot of young people looking scared and upset and you can see it in there eyes, this can make you feel what they feel through there eyes. The young boy in the second part she has tears in his eyes and he looks about 5 and he is very upset, which can make you upset to see this boy like that.

Using young children make a big impact on the viewer because parents dedicate there life’s to there kids and to see young children being abused can be very shocking because they couldn’t imagine doing anything to there own children like that.

Adverts like this are very clever because it makes you feel an emotion so it will be easy to remember because you felt something. Making you feel sad and fear for the child’s life make you want to help them you feel you would do anything to help this crying child.
Meeting a need/solution to a problem:

E.g. the advert for the Iphone is saying if you don’t have a Iphone you don’t have all the amazing apps you can get for the Iphone
The slogan is “if you don’t have a Iphone you don’t have a Iphone”. This makes you feel that if you don’t have an Iphone you don’t have a Iphone so it makes you different from the rest, its making you feel you have to have one or your not going to be able to use all the amazing things it can do,
its making you feel different from the rest. If you have this amazing phone that can do all these amazing things you can be cool and look good carrying this phone around.

E.g. if you see a advert saying that cracked heels are wrong and that its disgusting you will think if you have cracked heels that makes you disgusting, so it makes you feel you have to buy this product to make you normal. It makes you see problems that you wouldn’t of seen before or even cared about but now that someone on the TV is telling you that its wrong you feel that if you have it then people will look at your different, so it puts it in your mind so next time you have them on show you think back to that advert and then start to worry what people will think.
Adverts like this are very manipulative making you think you have to do certain things to be normal. It makes you worry about things you wouldn’t have even thought about before.  This is a very clever way of advertising because in this day and age everyone worried about what people think of them so they have to have what everyone else have to fit in and feel normal.
In some adverts they will try and make you feel you need something to be part of something and to fit in.

Documentary: Is a advert done in the style of a documentary. It can use talking head because it can be people sitting in font of a camera talking.
This advert is done in Documentary form because doing it like that makes it seem more realistic, because documentaries are based on real life events. Having different people of different ages sitting telling there stories can help relate to everyone.

Talking head: Is where the person sits and talks in to the camera.
Talking head was used in this football advert because it shows loads of different footballers and what they think you need to have to be a good footballer and I think this type of structure makes you feel they are talking to you. They are looking at you and telling you what you need to do to become a great footballer. This could help sell because you feel part of the advert.

Stand alone: Is where a advert isn’t done as a series. Each advert is by its self, it doesn’t have a on going story, it tells the whole story In one advert.
The yell advert is a stand alone advert it doesn’t have an on going story, the whole story is in one advert. This is good because then you can show the full story and they will see it in one then over a series of adverts. This makes you understand what's going on, because if it was in a series if you had missed one then you wouldn’t really understand what was going on.

Series: Is a type of advert which carries on the story in to the next advert that they show of that product. Its done as a on going theme, so each advert is done very similar so it is easy to recognize.
The Daz advert is made as a series, they are trying to act like it’s a soap opera because they know that many people watch soap opera’s, so they would like the style of the advert. This type of advert is good because it is easy to recognize as the story is very similar in each advert.
Realist narrative, Anti-realist narrative, Animation, Documentary, Talking head, Stand alone, Series.
Realist narrative: A advert that can be seen as real life, something that could really happen. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IEo-7B22xHw
This advert is realist because it shows a few different ways kids could get dirty and most of these things happen in everyday life, it also shows how mums get the stains out of their clothes. So this advert is realist narrative because it could happen in real life.

Anti-realist narrative: A advert that isn’t real, so it can have anything in the advert such as cartoon characters and other things that aren’t real. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlIL_vIjXOQ
This advert is Anti-realist because in the avert it has two sweets talking which would never happen so its not real. This advert is good because it will make people laugh so more people will remember it and talk about the advert to others. Anti-realist can use humor as a tool because it unrealistic which can make it funny.

Animation: It can be useful because you can make animated characters do what you want because you couldn’t really hit a persons in the face with a hammer, so using animation you can hit a cartoon characters or you could use animation to act like you have hit a real person in the face without hurting them. Using animation you can do things that you couldn’t do in real life.
The coco pop advert is animated to make it relate to kids, because the product is for kids. It tells a story which is anti-realist because its not real. Relating the advert to kids will make them want the product so will keep asking there parents till they buy it. So it’s a good idea to make the advert animation because it will draw the target audience in.

This report will include Different advertising techniques and how these techniques can draw you in and make you buy the product they are trying to sell.
Meeting a need/solution to a problem:
The people who are trying to sell the product well try and make a issues out of the smallest thing, it will make you think of something that you wouldn’t normal think of, so you will see the advert and think maybe I need that because I have that, but before you saw the advert you didn’t see it as an issues.
Emotional response:
By playing on people’s heartstrings it can make you by a product or give money to help a charity, because they feel they have to, to be able to help these staving children or abused animals, making you feel fear, concern and compassion will draw you in and make you feel bad if you don’t help.
Hidden and overt messages:
Is a advert which uses things we like such as the other sex, so having a half naked man or a woman in her underwear in the advert will attract you, using sex or sexual objects because they are trying to excite the mind.

Friday 4 November 2011

We did 2 interviews asking questions about energy drinks.
Interview one, male 17:
From this interview I found out:
That they prefer unrealistic because he finds them funny and he likes that stuff happens that could never happen.
He thinks that a advert should only be up to 20seconds because adverts that are too long get boring.
He likes energy drinks because they taste nice.
He has about one a week.
He feels that you have to be 13+ to buy the drink because it appeals to younger people.
He thinks that black isn’t a good name because he thinks it racist.
His favorite type of film I comedy because he think its funny and he likes things that are funny and make him laugh.
His favorite type of TV program is also comedy because of the same reasons.
When he saw the word venom he thinks of people dyeing because venom kills.
When they saw the word POW he thought of a comic book.

We made a questionnaire to try and find out a bit about what people think about energy drinks, also their lifestyle so we get a better idea on what people 16-19 think.
What we found:
80% said that they like adverts to be humour, last up to 20seconds.
60% said that they drank energy drinks, most of them drink about 4 a week.
When they saw the word venom they thought of snakes, spiders.

When they saw 4 different images of tattoos, piercings and make up most people like the tattooed girl.
When they saw 4 images of different types of music most people liked hip-hop and rock.
We asked them what type of films and TV programmes do they like and most replied that they liked humours and horror.

creative and media production

This is a blog for creative and media production.
Our group has been set a project to creative a advert, we will be going through all the different stages need to make a successful advert, from researching adverts, focus groups, planning, story boards, filming and editing and much more.
